Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has redeemed himself on the iHeartRadio stage, as the band performed their hit song “Basket Case” without incident at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards. This comes after Armstrong’s infamous meltdown during the same song at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in 2012, where he smashed his guitar and walked off the stage after being told to wrap up the performance.

Following the 2012 incident, Armstrong entered rehab for alcohol and prescription pills. In a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, he reflected on the meltdown, stating, “The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, ‘How bad was it?’ She said, ‘It’s bad.’ I called my manager. He said, ‘You’re getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately.'”

Now, 12 years later, Green Day took the iHeartRadio stage once again and performed “Basket Case” without any hiccups. Armstrong even sang a bit of the song’s early demo lyrics, marking a full circle moment for the band. In addition to their performance, Green Day was honored with The Landmark Award and played “Bobby Sox” from their latest album, Saviors.

Looking forward, Green Day is gearing up to launch the “Saviors Tour,” where they will perform their iconic albums Dookie and American Idiot in full at each stop of the tour. The band will also be joined by opening acts such as Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.

Fans can expect an epic show filled with nostalgic hits and new tracks from Green Day’s extensive discography. The band’s redemption on the iHeartRadio stage is a testament to Armstrong’s journey and the band’s enduring legacy in the music industry.

For those looking to catch Green Day live in concert, tickets for the “Saviors Tour” are available for purchase. Don’t miss your chance to see this legendary band rock the stage once again.
