Months long investigation leads to a dozen arrests

In Effingham County, Georgia, a county-wide investigation led by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Unit has resulted in a major bust with a dozen arrests and multiple search warrants executed with the assistance of the Rincon and Guyton Police Departments, according to a report by WTOC.

The investigation, which spanned several months throughout the county, led to the seizure of significant quantities of illicit substances. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Unit removed 12 pounds of marijuana, 4 pounds of mushrooms, 10 grams of fentanyl, 10 grams of heroin, half a pound of methamphetamine, several ounces of crack and cocaine, and 10 guns worth thousands of dollars off the streets.

Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie emphasized the importance of combatting drug-related activity to address the rising number of overdoses in Effingham County. He stated, “The time and effort put into this investigation by our Drug Suppression Unit shows that if you’re doing and selling drugs in our county, we will find you.”

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were arrested and face a range of charges:

– Michael Conaway, 41, of Guyton, was charged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute (Crack).
– Tiffany Conaway, 40, of Guyton, was charged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute (Crack), and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.
– Walter Edwards, 40, of Springfield, was charged with Operating an Unregistered Vehicle, Driving while License is Suspended, Possession of Cocaine, Sale of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute, and other related offenses.
– Herbert Green, 38, of Rincon, faced multiple charges including Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Controlled Substances, Aggravated Assault, and Trafficking Illegal Drugs.
– Earl Heyward, 33, of Guyton, faced charges including Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operating an Unregistered Vehicle, and Trafficking Illegal Drugs.
– Peter Johnson, 30, of Rincon, was arrested on charges including Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and other drug-related offenses.
– Marvin Kennedy, 27, of Guyton, faced charges including Possession of Marijuana, Use of Communication Facility in Commission of a Felony, and Check Fraud.
– Alex Ling, 38, of Clyo, was charged with Sale of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute, and other drug-related offenses.
– Frank Mumford, 42, of Rincon, faced a range of charges including Reckless Driving, DUI, Possession of Controlled Substances, Obstruction, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
– James Owens, 35, of Rincon, was charged with Sale of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fleeing, Obstruction, and Parole Violation.
– Major Williams, 40, of Guyton, faced charges including Possession of Controlled Substances, Trafficking Illegal Drugs, and Probation Violation.
– Jeremy Yeater, 37, of Meldrin, was charged with Trafficking Illegal Drugs, Possession of Marijuana and other controlled substances, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of Tools for Commission of a Crime.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Rincon and Guyton Police Departments, continues to prioritize the fight against drug trafficking and sales in the community to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
